Evilution Battle History

Evilution saw it's first combat at Battlebots 5.0.  Our home bathroom scale must have been a little off.  Our initial weight in was 223 pounds!  That didn't include the extra weight needed to foam the two front tires (6 more pounds).  I guess I should have allowed a few pounds in the computer generated model for the wires and the weld beads.  Luckily the Lincoln welder guys at Battlebots are experts with a plasma torch.  See the holes they added in the weapon cylinder.  We decided to fight with two air filled tires.

The safety inspectors also forced us to change the attachment method for our main power disconnect.  They wanted a hinge and no threaded fasteners.  The BattleRat team was very helpful in loaning us some Zeus buttons to make that change.  Electrical zip ties passed as a hinge.

Discontent

After a bi in the first round, and a forfeit in the second round, then we fought Discontent.  They gave us three ruptured tires and severe  metal tube damage near the drum weapon.  We did not cause much damage to Discontent but they did have to use a fire extinguisher on their weapons motor at the end of a 2 minute match.  We lost to a judges decision, but at least Evilution is still a functional robot.  Many robots came back home as a box of parts.

In the off season Evilution is being used as a Mule to carry cabin building supplies, (80+ bags of mortar) up a steep mountain trail at 10,800 feet near Idaho Springs Colorado.

We are already looking at a stronger weapons motor and lighter batteries for next season.  This will allow us to foam all 4 tires and include the top trim strips.  Next time maybe we'll do our test driving against a 200 lb bag of rocks sealed inside a bear proof suit.
