Click on any of these pictures to see a larger photograph. Evilution evolved buy taking two Invacare XT power wheel chairs and cutting them in half. The half with the motors was kept. The original wheel chair had only two motors. As originally designed, the Invacare wheelchair was intended to move a 300 lb man. Power was supplied by two 12 volt dc gel cell MK brand batteries. These batteries were 52 pounds each. I found a smaller battery that was 24 lbs each but that also was really too heavy. The design was too far along to make drastic frame changes. So I kept the heavy 24 lb batteries. Many of the frame parts were modified, welded or installed in Mike Konshak's garage (the Robot Dojo). The cylinder out front is a spinning weapon. It was made from a steel CO2 tank. The weapon shaft came from a go-cart drive shaft. For the top armor, a sheet 1/2" thick Polycarbonate was chosen to allow the radio signal to reach the internal antenna. At one inch thick Polycarbonate is bulletproof! In the inverted position it has a ground clearance of about 3/4 of an inch. See the battle history page for more photos. Copyright ® 2002 Barry Anderson |
