2/14/03  Design Concept

Design concept:  The robot Compound Fracture is named.  Compound Fracture is going to have skirts on four sides (similar to Little Bunny FuFu) with a spinning bar weapon (similar to Worm Burner).  Compound Fracture will not be invertible.  The main design challenge will be to design small enough to make the 12 weight limit.  I am more familiar with the bigger robot parts for 100 plus pound robots.

3-D Modeling:  I have modeled the motors and the wheels.  The chassis is yet to be designed.  To down load the SolidWorks file click on the image.

Drive motors:  I went with the 9.6 VDC Drill Master cordless drills from Harbor Freight. They were $9.99 each and included a charger and batteries.  Shipping  is free on a $50.00 + order.  I received the box of 6 motors.

Wheels:  I have selected the Colson Performa 3" diameter x .875 tread width.  You can get then from McMaster Carr under the part number 2829T52 for $4.90 each.  A cheaper source is to buy them from botparts for $2.50 each.  The above model was done without the part in my greedy little hands so size data will need to be verified.

Weapon:  I want to put in a EV Warrior motor for the spinning blade weapon but It is difficult to get all the components to fit within the 12 lb weight limit.  The added batteries to get to 24 Volts for the weapon is putting me over the limit.  I found EV Warriors from botpartz.com for $20.00 each so I ordered a quantity of 5.  These most likely will be used in a 30 lb robot.

Armor:  I will use some stuff that is lying around in the garage.  I have left over Polycarbonate in 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2" thick.  I also have .125" thick diamond plate textured aluminum sheet.
