This 0.050 inch thick titanium armor was added to a basic Battlebots toy Dr. Inferno Jr. It weighs a total of 1.75 lbs. This robot was built to fight in the 2 lb class at Critter Crunch. It's first match was in October 2002. We won one match (best out of three) then proceeded to loose the next two matches. It was not really low enough to scrape the ground on the front edge.
Both times we lost the other robots (from Robotdojo) were able to get under our
sheet metal and lift our drive tires off the ground. Then we were pushed
out of the arena. I let my five year old son, Cole, drive every other fight. It was good practice for him to drive in a tournament. To do better next time we will disable the shock sensor, add more batteries to increase the speed, and disable the extra gears that drive the weapon to reduce drag on the motors. Another needed upgrade will be to add hinges to the skirts. Another possible design strategy would be to make two one pound robots and then enter as a multi-bot. View from bottom Little Bunny FuFu was entered at MURC's Rocky Mountain Showdown on January 18th 2003. The skirt was modified to incorporate hinges. The number of battery cells were increased from 4 to 6. This increased the speed but minimized the run time to about 10 minutes. Unfortunately we lost twice and did not take home any trophies.
