One to two pound robotsRobot names from upper left clockwise; Dagger, Little Bunny FuFu, Tortise, Ice Scraper, and Rectifier. The above robots were created for SOZ (16 ounce) tournaments and other small robot tournaments. Two such local (Denver, CO) tournaments are Critter Crunch and MURC's Rocky Robot Mountain Showdown. As you can see the designs share a few common themes. Every robot has titanium sheet metal, and most are based on the Battlebot® toy drive train. This was an easy way to finish a working robot with minimal time and money investment. I had some Titanium donated to me from Vector Corporation. Most of the pieces were cut using a friction blade on a circular saw. The basic drive train was created using a Battlebot® motors, gears and wheels. To get a detailed instruction on how to rework a Battlebot® toy go to www.robotdojo.com. I have heard from other builders that the motors can be over volted, but the radio electronics may not handle that higher voltage. Increase the voltage at your own risk. I also normally use the radio transmitter and receiver that comes with the toys. They come with a 4-way switch to modify the 27Mhz and 49Mhz narrow band frequencies. Copyright ® 2002 Barry Anderson |
